One week. Four trials. And failure is not an option.
One week. Four trials. And failure is not an option. Rich Witz is just trying to survive middle school. Homework, bullies, and the usual chaos are already enough to handle. Then his grandmother disappears and leaves him a single, mysterious gift. A white chess pawn with his initials carved into it. That pawn changes everything. Overnight, Rich is pulled into a hidden world of strategy, danger, and ancient power. He has been chosen as the next Paladin, a white knight in training, and his future now depends on something far more serious than grades. A deadly contest. To claim his place, Rich must complete four tasks of valor in just seven days. If he fails, he dies. If he succeeds, he might just save the world. Standing in his way is his Nemesis, a dark knight in training who is playing to win at any cost. And the worst part? His Nemesis is hiding in plain sight at school. With the ghost of an ancestor as his guide and time slipping away, Rich must outthink, outmaneuver, and outlast an enemy who is always one move ahead. Because if he fails, the ancient order of Paladins will fall, the dark knights will rise, and the world will be left without hope.
Perfect for readers who love:
• Middle grade fantasy with high stakes and fast pacing
• Chess-inspired worlds and strategy-based adventures
• Underdog heroes facing impossible challenges
• Clean action-packed fantasy for ages 10–14
For fans of Percy Jackson, The Unwanteds, and epic coming-of-age quests with a twist. Seven days. Four trials. One final test he cannot afford to fail.
