First, let me say - I didn’t set out to become a writer. I was too busy running — literally. At fourteen, I was a competitive runner with my eyes on the finish line… until a friend (bless his clumsy soul) accidentally shattered my knee and my athletic dreams in one fell swoop. Overnight, I went from racing tracks to lying flat on my back, trapped beneath a fortress of blankets and a towering stack of Harlequin romances. My dad took one look at those bodice-rippers scattered across my bed, said nothing, and disappeared — only to return moments later, drop a book onto my lap, and declare: “You need to broaden your reading horizons.” The book was Iceberg by Clive Cussler. And just like that, my fate was sealed. Dirk Pitt became my new hero. Adventure, mystery, danger — all danced off the page and straight into my imagination. While my knee healed, a new dream took shape: I wanted to whisk readers away on thrilling journeys of their own. So here I am: a writer fueled by a twist of fate, a determined dad, and the legendary Clive Cussler. And while I may not be sprinting down tracks anymore, I’m still chasing stories — and loving every second of the race.

“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”
Albert Camus
The World on Fire
Year: 2158
The initial stages, Phases One and Two, unfolded with chilling efficiency over the course of twenty-four months. The world seemed to hold its breath in an eerie silence. Cities dimmed, streets emptied…the hum of civilization faded to a low, unnatural quiet.
Robotic Military Personnel (RMPs) surged across every continent with the ferocity of a cataclysmic storm, their true intentions masked by a deceitful promise of global recovery. Phase One—a mandate heralded as the last bastion against a devastating plague—was, in reality, the first menacing move toward worldwide dominion.
Control took root the moment the needles pierced skin. The inoculations, delivered as a cure against disease, were actually insidious biometric chips. Their malevolent purpose: to subjugate, oppress, and annihilate.
Phase Two began before the world had time to question what they had accepted—let alone comprehend the horror that was about to be unleashed.
The RMP surged forth, their sensors sweeping over the chipped populace—not searching for mere traces of infection, but targeting the elderly, the frail, the disabled, and the infirmed—any soul considered a burden to society. Once this grim, unforgiving census reached its chilling conclusion, the RMPs unleashed the termination protocol with ruthless precision—relaying a deadly signal.
The result was cataclysmic—over four-and-a-half billion lives extinguished in a year.
Those left behind—physically intact, but spiritually hollowed—watched the world shrink around them. Fear replaced reason. Order replaced freedom. And in the void, compliance became the last refuge of the living.
In the aftermath, as the dust of decimation settled, military structure was all that remained. Battalions were divided and deployed. The commanders in charge of the troops: Major Ethan Mannelly, Lieutenant Colonel Elizaveta Kuznetsov, Second Lieutenant Jeong Hanjun, Lieutenant Xiu Zhang—and Colonel Zain Belhasa.
For Zain, the orders were clear. The path laid before him was rigid, defined. But his conscience—long buried beneath protocol—had begun to surface in ways he could no longer ignore.
With each life taken and every mass grave filled, his soul fractured more deeply, leading him to question his commitment to his duty—a commitment that was demanded of him right at the start of Phase One when he was ordered to execute his own mother. Comply or die. Her execution wasn’t a punishment; it was a prerequisite, the cost of leadership, the price for staying alive.
But what he once regarded as duty began to feel more like silent complicity. Questions he never used to consider began to haunt him, unwelcome and persistent.
Zain’s denial deepened into something unsettling. He hadn’t yielded. He was simply paralyzed—falling numb, as if survival depended on it. Clarity slipped. Conviction thinned.
Still, through it all, he fell back on the knowledge that he wasn’t alone. He had his personal RMP, self-designated Tom—assigned for protection; never meant for companionship. Yet over time, something shifted. Unlike the other RMP units, Tom possessed an experimental Adaptive AI—designed to adapt, to analyze, to improve. And under Zain’s command, or perhaps because of it, Tom began to do something far more unexpected: it began to reach for something…human—connection.
At first, it mimicked. Then it questioned. And eventually, it listened—not just for instructions, but for meaning. Zain spoke to Tom as he would a subordinate, then a partner, and finally—without realizing it—as a friend. Tom didn’t emote in the way humans did, but there was something steady, something loyal in the way it remained by Zain’s side.
That loyalty, unspoken but deeply felt, became the anchor that held fast through the shifting tides.
In time, their conversations shifted too. They no longer spoke solely of orders, but of consequences—of what their actions might build or destroy. They weren’t ready to launch a rebellion, not yet. But the idea had taken root. And with each passing day, it grew stronger, drawing them ever closer to the edge of treason.
Days merged into one another, driven by the relentless ticking of a never-ending clock. Zain and Tom found themselves navigating a maze of moral dilemmas and strategic decisions. Every action needed to be both discreet and effective, planting seeds of resistance in a landscape sterilized by fear and oppression.
Long before rebellion took shape, before the world began to fracture, there was Melyndie—bright, unexpected, and utterly unprepared for the world she had fallen into.
She crashed into their world at the onset of Phase One, a mystery from another time. She seemed to have descended from the heavens; an enigma wrapped in a veil of purpose. Originating from the distant future, she had embarked on a mission of her own—a quest to save humanity’s future—but she had fallen into a world teetering on the brink of annihilation.
In a world dissolving into control and conformity, she was the only thing that reminded Zain what it meant to be human, the only thing that mattered.
Zain saw in her something fragile but fierce—a spark of hope that glowed quietly, but stirred the embers within him of a fire he hadn’t felt since the loss of his mother. In Melyndie, he saw not just the chance to protect, but the chance to redeem what duty had stolen from him. She was a reminder of everything he hadn’t been able to save—and he would guard her with everything he had left.
But then, in the blink of an eye, she was gone; vanished from their lives, but never from Zain’s mind. Her presence had disrupted everything. Her disappearance had left a wound.
With Melyndie’s absence casting a shadow over his heart, Zain steels himself with iron resolve for what lies ahead—for in a world being rewritten, he—and those who dare stand with him—must fight to reclaim what it means to be human.
